During the July 7 celebration, something happened that none of us present will forget.

 

After a full program of celebration, Governor Jerry Brown walked to the podium, and the room came alive. Every conversation stopped. Every phone came up. Fifty years after he established the California Conservation Corps as Governor in 1976, he stood in front of corpsmembers, supporters, agency leaders, and decision-makers and reminded us all why this work matters.

 

Then he did something none of us expected. Governor Brown announced a personal gift of $25,000 to the CCC Foundation, an investment in the next 50 years of the legacy he began. His gift wasn’t just a celebration of the past — it was a vote of confidence in the future.
