The Watershed Stewards Program (WSP), one of the longest-running and most impactful AmeriCorps programs in California, has officially launched recruitment for its 32nd program year! The upcoming term will run from October 1, 2025 to August 20, 2026, and applications are now being accepted.
Backed by the California Conservation Corps (CCC), WSP continues to move forward with confidence and optimism—even in the face of ongoing uncertainties surrounding AmeriCorps funding. Their commitment to environmental service, restoration science, and community engagement remains strong, and they invite you to be a part of it.
Help Us Spread the Word
We’re calling on all WSP friends, alumni, and supporters to help amplify their recruitment efforts. We’ve created several outreach materials, including flyers, a placement site map, application instructions, and FAQs, which you can share on your personal and professional networks. While the WSP website is getting a fresh new look on April 25, the main site link will remain the same: www.ccc.ca.gov/wsp. Feel free to direct any interested candidates there to get started.
You can also support WSP by reposting from their social media accounts or by advocating for continued AmeriCorps funding. Learn more about how your voice can make a difference by checking out our Advocacy Guide.
What is WSP?
WSP is dedicated to improving the health of California’s watersheds by engaging Corpsmembers in hands-on restoration projects, scientific monitoring, and community education. Each year, WSP places Corpsmembers at environmental organizations across the state where they work alongside professional scientists (Mentors) on:
Habitat restoration and enhancement projects
Data collection and watershed assessments
Environmental education in underserved public schools
Volunteer mobilization for community-based restoration efforts
Our ultimate mission is to protect and restore habitat for threatened and endangered salmonid species—and to prepare the next generation of environmental leaders while doing it.
Who Should Apply?
If you're a young adult looking to gain valuable experience in watershed restoration, fisheries biology, or environmental education, WSP offers a unique opportunity to serve, learn, and lead. This is your chance to get involved in meaningful fieldwork and make a lasting impact on California’s ecosystems and communities.
Important Dates:
